Prologue: Part 6 - Building The Sector
Last modified 16 hours, 10 minutes ago
With the foundation of our characters and framework in place, this session was dedicated to expanding the galaxy itself. This was about where it takes place. Together, we built our starting sector, detailed the planet of Praefectus, mapped out key settlements, and breathed life into Hyperion City’s districts.
This is where the world of Iron Rising truly took shape.
Forging the Sector: Praefectus and Beyond
We chose the Terminus region as our starting point—stable, mapped, and politically charged. At its center sits the planet Praefectus, a vital world with an ideal atmosphere and a striking ring system, home to billions. Its ruling body, the Tribunal of Seven, governs with cold calculation under “The Law of Seven.”
Around Praefectus orbit and drift the landmarks of our opening arc:
- Vesper, an orbital research station with rustic architecture and a reputation for dull but liberating assignments.
- Manus, a mysterious Precursor vault shaped like a giant hand, forever drifting but always reaching toward the artificial star Solis.
- Calypso, a derelict relic ship from the great catastrophe, adrift in deep space, feared as the edge of Tribunal influence.
We connected these through three charted passages. Praefectus to Vesper, Vesper to Calypso, and Manus to Solis.
Hyperion City: Vast, Ornate, Ruthless
At the heart of Praefectus lies Hyperion City, a sprawling coastal metropolis built across cliffs and plateaus. Its tone is defined by three words: Vast, Ornate, Ruthless. Lights burn day and night, a city that never sleeps, where illumination doubles as surveillance.
Each caste has its district, marked by monumental spires of color and pride:
- Red District – industrial hive of forced labor, simmering with rebellion.
- Grey District – plain but brutal, training grounds and fight clubs.
- Violet District – intoxicating storm of pleasure and propaganda, epitomized by The Clubhouse.
- Blue District – grid of universities and corporations, anchored by The Garden, a neurotraining complex where Gold prodigies face their final exams.
- Bronze District – “fair and balanced” in appearance, but slow and corrupt, with backroom fixers like Cassian Drexel greasing the wheels.
- Gold District – utopia of opulence, crowned by The Castle of the Seven and the fortress-academy of the Praetorium Guard, where the siblings mother is immortalized.
New Faces and Factions
This session also introduced new figures and institutions that shape the siblings’ world:
- The Praetorium Guard – the Tribunal’s elite enforcers, known simply as Praetors. Their pride is to show their faces—“Gold hides from nothing.”
- Cassian Drexel – a Bronze power broker, the fixer in the shadows of the Grand Arbitrium.
- Maren Veythros – our Connection for the sector, a youthful and friendly Bronze liaison who delivers missions with a smile and a ledger.
Trouble on the Horizon
We also set the stage for the conflicts to come:
- Whispers of a Red uprising threaten stability.
- Toxic pollution festers in the Grey District, stoking resentment and hostility.
The world is gilded, but the cracks are showing.
With Praefectus mapped and Hyperion City alive, our story is poised to begin.
